DENMARK RUS MISSED CHANCES

Denmark’s chances of playing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup almost ended after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in the recent World Cup qualifying match. Denmark gave themselves a huge hope of qualifying for this major tournament by beating Czech Republic 3-0 only a few days ago. This would have helped them to at least make it into the play-offs. However, this two dropped two points against Bulgaria may prove to be extremely costly after the team sit a massive four points behind Bulgaria in the table.

Bulgaria occupied the second place, which is the final position that will help teams qualify for the World Cup through the play-offs. The group is dominated by the 2006 World Cup winners, Italy. Denmark came into the match with high hopes due to the recent win over Czech Republic, but they were unable to capitalise on the home advantage. Bulgaria took the lead in the second half through a goal from Manolev in the 51st minute. Even though Czech Republic were able to come back into the match through a penalty from Liverpool defender Daniel Agger, they were unable to get the crucial winning goal that would have put them just one point behind Bulgaria on the table.

“We are not satisfied and we should have won this game in the first half. We have the chances, especially in the first half but we don’t capitalise and the second half becomes a messy affair,” said Morten Olsen. “It wasn’t good enough. We needed more today and we should have gotten more. We let them score an easy goal. We could have maintained a 1-0 lead, which was what we aimed for,” said Liverpool defender Daniel Agger. The team’s next match will play against Armenia, but that match will not be until June.
