AGGER LINKED TO BARCA

The future of Liverpool’s Danish defender Daniel Agger has constantly been on the speculation in the last few months. He has been linked with a move to Barcelona, who are looking for a replacement for Carlos Puyol. The 34-year-old is coming to the end of his stellar career and he has been suffering a number of injury problems in recent years. Barcelona do not expect him to carry on playing at the top level for more than a couple of seasons. As a result, they have been targeting several defenders like Daniel Agger and Thomas Vermaelen.

Playing as a defender for Barcelona requires a unique set of skills like being able to bring the ball out of defence. Agger is one of the best defenders at this task and it is not a surprise to see him being linked with a £ 15 million move to the camp Nou. Liverpool and Barcelona have already done business with each other in recent years after the transfer of Javier Mascherano. Yet, Agger has said that he does not want to leave the Merseyside club. He still has three years left on his current contract and he intends to fulfil it.

This will come as a major boost for manager Brendan Rodgers especially in the wake of the Martin Skrtel rumours.

“I still have three years left and I intend to fulfil them. There are always rumours, but who is creating them? I don’t know. It is not a bad thing to be linked with top clubs but you have to take 70% of the speculation off and then you have the reality,” said Agger, who has just had a great season with Liverpool. Liverpool are on course to finish in the seventh position in the first season at the club for Brendon Rogers.
